Oh a Snow Day cost me a ton of money lol

Well, we have about 5 inches of new snow and the school was closed today. So, I took the girls, Jessica 14 and Samantha 17 shopping for their special dresses.

Samantha is 17 and a Jr in high school. This year is her Jr. prom her first formal, and she picked out the following dress.

Cathedral Window update

Well, tonight I measured my CW quilt and as of 10pm it is 64 inches x 80 inches.

In order to enter it in the county fair it must measure at least 76 inches x 86 inches, it's getting closer each week. It's my goal to have the foundation, muslin blocks, the size I need for the fair by the end of next week. It will have to be 17 blocks by 20 blocks. Each block is 4.5 inches. Once the foundation is the size I need I will finish filling in the charm squares, or windows.

I also did the math, with some help from a few friends, and it has 304 charms, so far. I'm not sure what the total charm squares will be, I just know it will be a lot!! lol

Cathedral Window Quilt Lecture

Throughout history, churches and cathedrals with their elegant structure, wooden interior and breathtaking stained glass windows have inspired many artistes.

The Cathedral Window Quilt is one such art form that was inspired from the beauty of small pieces of colored glass found in a church window.

Penny Streeter, long time quilter, will walk you through the history of the Cathedral Window Quilt and describe the mystery that goes into making such a work of art.

This open to the public journey held in the Bradford County Library Conference room starts at 1pm Thursday February 15th. If you have made your own Cathedral Window Quilt and would like to share, please feel free to bring it with you.

A three hour tour

OH my GOSH!! The owner of the boarding barn did a guided tour today. There were 11 horses total, I was the only boarder, and it took us almost 3 hours. WOW I saw some lovely country side today. I'm kicking myself for not taking my camera it was so pretty. Bear was a perfect gentleman, and even faced the new obstacles like a trooper. He went down a steep bank, crossed a stream and climbed the other bank, then crossed a bridge, went under a fallen tree. I am so thrilled to have a horse that is this trustworthy.

Update on my Cathedral Window

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. Mine was wonderful; Santa was very good to me.

I’ve been enjoying some time off from work so I’ve been working on my Cathedral Window. I want to enter it in our local county fair that’s held in July. I learned that the rules state, it must measure at least 76 inches by 86 inches. So, I have a ton of stitching to do.

The method I’m using for this Cathedral Window is a modern twist on a traditional pattern. I will post a tutorial in a few days and share the steps.
This quilt has been a wonderful project. Each time I pull a different window pane square I remember the project it came from. It has also been a great way to use up all those small pieces of muslin that I have had sitting around here.

To date the quilt measures 36 inches by 76 inches. I am working on smaller sections and then attach them to the larger panel. Right now I am working on another 36x76 inch panel. I have three rows done, and just started the 4th.

Have a great day, and keep checking back to watch my progress on this project.

If you already love Cathedral Window and want to chat with others about it, feel free to check out the yahoo group:

Cathedral Window

When I'm not hand quilting my Feathered Star I'm also working on my Cathedral Window. My goal is to make this at least full size. Our local county fair has a category just for Cathedral Window quilts and they must be at least full size. I'm not sure I'll be able to get it full size by next July. But, there is always the year after and the year after that. LOL .

Calico Sweet Tooth

I named this quilt Calico Sweet Tooth. I used over 300, 6 inch sugar bowl quilt blocks. My goal was not to use the same fabric twice. It took me over a year just to collect the fabrics and almost 5 months to sew the blocks. When the top was done, my daughter notice that I repeated one of the purple fabrics. I have the options of removing the block and replacing it or leaving it as it sewn. I have decided to leave the top as it is, and smile each time I see the repeated block.
